Weaponry Class
Apr. 11th, 2007 03:56 pmI've been thinking about how best to structure the Weaponry class, which is team taught but each teacher has a different subject. Here's what I've come up with.
Here's who we have:
Teachers: Sirius Black-archery, Dylan Sanders-hand to hand combat, Jon Snow-tracking, Robb Stark-swordfighting, Bill Weasley-knife throwing
Students: Dairine Callahan, Billy Costigan, Imriel no Montreve de la Courcel, Alphonse Elric, Veronica Mars, Fa Mulan, Calvin O'Keefe, Alex Rider, Arya Stark, Hayley Stark
IDEA ONE
We have five teachers and ten students, so what do you guys think of this: divide the students into pairs and then rotate them through the teachers?
Here's how it would look:
Session One
Archery: Dairine Callahan, Billy Costigan
Hand to Hand: Imriel no Montreve de la Courcel, Alphonse Elric
Tracking: Veronica Mars, Fa Mulan
Swordfighting: Calvin O'Keefe, Alex Rider
Knife Throwing: Arya Stark, Hayley Stark
Session Two
Each pair of students rotates to the next subject (knife throwing people move to archery)
And so on through five sessions. I've just divided them alphabetically here, but we could divide them according to age or basic skill level or something else. The problem with this is that the term is four months long, which means each session would be three weeks (if you count the first week as orientation/dividing into groups). That gives only six classes, two per week, for each subject, which is probably not enough.
IDEA TWO
The problem above led me to think of the second idea - have the first class (which would have already occurred, last Monday) be an overview of each one by the teachers, and then each student would pick one subject to learn this term. The potential problem there is if everyone picks the same thing - although I guess that would only be a problem for the four teachers left without students. The other thing is that the five of us would need to be willing to teach one student, if that situation arises, but I think all of you said that you were ok with that. For the students, if they were interested in more than one subject, they could simply take Weaponry again next term (and for five terms, if they want all five).
So. Thoughts? Ideas? Merciless ridicule? Fire away. ;)

On the other hand, the 'survey' idea has some merit in letting them figure out what their areas of concentration are meant to BE.Then again, there's no reason some teachers and students can't meet outside regular hours, if they want to do more, too.
